While installing Windows ME for dual boot, system halted.
I tried to reinstall windows me after I reinstalled bootit ng and this time
I put the floppy in the drive when it rebooted the first time and it gave me the option to "reactivate" so I did and windows me booted fine the first time. When it booted for the second time i put the floppy in again and it gave me the option to "reinstall" so I did but I still got the same error when booting windows me. Something is causing bootit ng to be deactivated or uninstalled. I even installed bootit ng on its own partition but I still get the same problem. Yes, I have read all the instructions and I know the problem is not with windows me installation, it has to do with the boot manager not staying active or something. Any more help?? Thank You Kevin "Mike M" wrote in message ... The boot managers claim that windows me can be installed on any partition but perhaps they all lie. They don't lie, but rather you really do need to read the documentation that comes with the various third party boot managers. One clue is to hide all the other partitions containing operating systems when adding another. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Windows [2001-2006] Kevin J. Thank you Mike for insisting I read all the documentation. I read
everything I could and I read this article http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/kb/article.php?id=201 which told me that windows me doesnt work on a partition above 128 GB so I moved the partition to the 2 position just after my 1st partition of 68 GB and everything works great now. Thank You Kevin "Mike M" wrote in message ... Kevin, Just one comment. Read the documentation. BING will always be deactivated on installing a new operating system but once reactivated you should experience no further problems. I have already told you where to obtain help with BING. Have you done so? As far as I can see you have not since you have posted to none of the terabyte newsgroups so perhaps you don't really want to solve your problem. Any more help?? You could always try following the advice you have been given over the past few days. g -- Mike Maltby Kevin J. Kevin,
I have to admit that I hadn't even considered that you were trying to boot Win Me above 128GB and perhaps if I had known that I might have been able to be more help. I am however very pleased to read that you have now managed to fix your problem. At least you now know that using a boot manager such as BING that you can install your oss in any order that takes your fancy although I would warn you to be careful if installing Vista. You might be slightly amused to read that I also solved a problem today - getting Magic Mail to access a G-Mail account which requires SSL access which is not supported by Magic Mail. The solution was right in front of my eyes and simply required me to a) download and install the latest version of Magic Mail, and, b), most important, to read the MM Help files which told me that using FreePOPs as a proxy would solve my problem. I'm not aware of ever having previously opened Help in MM. "That'll learn me!" vbg -- Mike Maltby Kevin J. Nielsen wrote: Thank you Mike for insisting I read all the documentation. I would like to say thanks again Mike for compelling me to read the
documentation; its something I need to learn how to do. I have been lazy and always try to get a quick answer by skimming through the documentation to the relevant parts, but when I do that I always miss out on some important information and have to go back and search for it. Much better and efficient to read everything the first time. I had found the answer myself before I received the answer from the terabyteunlimited newsgroup, I just told him thanks for his help. ( I didnt want to be rude and say "I already found the answer", thus making him feel like his time was wasted, although it was nice to have the link provided to me and everyone else by his response) Thanks Kevin |
