Default not showing in add/remove multiple occurences

Hi... something seems to be wrong with the add/remove programs. At first I
thought it was that the software I had installed didnt come with an
uninstaller. But its happened with 3 or 4 things now. I contacted some of
the support people for the products that werent showing and they assured me
that the product came with an uninstaller. They recommended I reinstall the
product, but it still didnt show. I recently started using a utility called
"easy uninstall" to do the add/removes, but would like to know whats up with
the add/remove and fix it if possible.
thanks in advance!

All Installed Programs May Not Be Displayed in the Add/Remove Programs
Tool
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=240348

I have fixed several of these recently for others.
The problem will occur in these two situations:

1. The uninstall keyname for an application is greater than 63
characters.
Solution: Rename the keyname.
e.g. this is invalid
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Uninstall\12345678901234567890123456789 01234567890123456789012345678901234]

2. The DisplayName for the key is greater than 63 characters.
Solution: Shorten DisplayName
e.g. this is invalid
"DisplayName"="12345678901234567890123456789012345 67890123456789012345678901234"

*** Note that the invalid entry that can cause this is not necessarily
connected with the ones missing so you must check all entries.

If you need a second opinion, export the key to a Registration file
and email it to me.

Hmmm.
How would I find out what the keyname of the uninstaller is?
One of the is "Tweak Now Registry Cleaner" .. another is the AVG Antivirus
free edition....
Perhaps you are familiar with these utilities and know the HKEY names?

I am not familiar with either but the keyname will show in Regedit

In case I was not clear, in this key:

Just reviewed and found that you had also mentioned the display name and the
fact that all registry entries should be reviewed.
I'll do that and post back.

OK, but that is not always the problem and it is not always the
missing keys that cause it.
If all the keys are there, I strongly suggest you export the Uninstall

I did "Export registry file" and chose the entire install folder, and saved
it as a .reg file in My Documents.
I belive this is what you meant by exporting the Uninstall key.
I see in the article you quoted it gives instructions on how to rename.
Should I go ahead and do this?
thanks

Yes, right-click and rename.
It should be the problem but only renaming will prove that.
Please export the key before you do anything, just in case you make an
error.

If you get the problem solved, can you let me know where this came
from and I will contact the author. Most have been cooperative and
changed their uninstall routines.

me
that the product came with an uninstaller. They recommended I

reinstall
the
product, but it still didnt show. I recently started using a utility
called
"easy uninstall" to do the add/removes, but would like to know whats

up
with
the add/remove and fix it if possible.
thanks in advance!
