Is WPA encryption possible with Win98
I need to connect to a WiFi router using WPA encryption. I do not see this
on the configuration settings of my US Robotics WiFi card (USR5410). I sthis because Win98 does not support WPA or do I need to upgrade the supporting software of my WiFi card ? |

I sthis because Win98 does not support WPA or do I need to upgrade the supporting software of my WiFi card ? Win98 has no built-in support for any type of wireless networking. Your WiFi card software and firmware would have to support WPA. It's very hard to find a network card with WPA support that works with Win98. As an alternative, you can get a wireless gaming adapter with WPA support and connect it to a wired Ethernet port on your computer. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. Is WPA encryption possible with Win98
Thank you for your fast answer. I indeed eventually found that an update
driver vor my US Robotics card would provide support for WPA encryption. However, it did NOT work with the router I'a trying to use. What you mentionned let me suspect, indeed, that the card would work with WinXP but not with Win98. What do you mean exactly by "a wireless gaming adapter" (I am not very fond of games...). I'am curious because this seems like an easy work around. Regards, "Steve Winograd [MVP]" wrote: In article , Paul (Bornival) wrote: I need to connect to a WiFi router using WPA encryption. Regards, A wireless gaming adapter lets a networkable device, such as a computer or gaming console, connect to a wireless network via a wired Ethernet port. It doesn't require installing any software, so it works with all versions of Windows. Type "wireless gaming adapter" in your Internet search engine to see examples from manufacturers such as D-Link, Netgear, Actiontec, and Linksys. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see.
