Not that AumHa is short of business or to grab-traffic from here.
If you read some of the threads you'd be surprised what we have for
qualified folks - again not taking from here g

May I remind you that blatant soliciting in these newsgroups such as
your first post is seriously frowned upon by Microsoft.

Um, who cares what Microsoft frowns upon, seriously or otherwise?

It's called
spamming.

No, spamming would be *undesired* messages. I have yet to see a message
from Silj that was undesired by me or many others. If it weren't for
people like Silj, I would have never known about AdAware, Spybot,
Spywareblaster, etc. and I thank him and others for helping me make my
computer more secure.

Snip boilerplate Usenet netiquette SPAM.

It would appear that Mike is getting ready to move to xp.general. He
certainly has the attitude for it, he'll fit right in with the rest of the
pompous, self-righteous, intolerant jerks calling themselves "MVPs" over
there.

Randy (Silj), thank you for all of your help over the years I was running
ME. Maybe I'll see you "on the other side" now (I lurk in xp.newusers, I
really can't stand xp.general).

I'll have to weigh in here...

The fact is posting a web site without being asked to do is spam. Mike is right.

If this had been someone else that posted something like...

We have creaeted a new forum, come join us at

http://myforum.com

Everyone would have called this spam. OK. Randy made a mistake -- it happens.
However, Mike is totally correct. This was a spam post and it really should NOT have been
made.

I'd like to also point out that there is MORE to security information than just posting this
or that software has been updated. For a non-MVP that can be expected. However for a
Security MVP we should see technical replies to queries for help. Mike is right about this
too. The vast majority of Randy's posts are to just state this or that software has been
updated. His replies invariably point back to http://aumha.net. The problem with posting
this or that software has veen updated is that these posts lack technical information that a
Security MVP should be providing. Such as...

- Why the software was updated
- What were the major changes made
- Who is the target audience

For example:

Subject: "SpyBot Definition File Update 18.08.06"

http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=21217

Silj

What's missing is...
What was added to the definitions ?
Were there False Poitive declarations removed ?

All that was posted was the AUMHA URL.

I want to express the fact that this is mine and other's opinion and this is often discussed
"behind the scenes" in private.

I expect flames to follow :-(

David,

I am sorry but your comment is typical of the MVP "pack" institutional
mentality that has been lightly (stress, LIGHTLY) commented by Marty.

Mike's comments did step the line of what I would call diplomatic process
(if that makes any sense), but who ever has followed Mike M's posts over the
years already knows that darker side of his unquestionably superb knowledge
of WinME, and surely other versions of Windows.

As for Silj's posts, you sould read all the thank you notes that follow.
That alone was a good enough reason for him to continue posting.

The spam issue, IMHO, and on this specific post is plain BS (forgive me the
bluntness).

And I will end with my own... Thank you Silj!

Cheers,

Zee

Good Day,

I have not been following this discussion, but had a quick read
through. All it does is to point out what I have observed for a while
now.

It is sad to see that someone bases his expierence in posting stuff
that you could find by subscribing to COU. Also I find it highly
uncomforting that the NGs have evolved to some sort of flaming war
which can be observed on several NGs. In regards to Silj, I was more
than disappointed to watch his behaviour towards Nick S. who I regard
as someone who is very helpful and answers in full detail. Flaming
someone like him, editing posts and closing topics is something I would
not expect of someone who s titling himself with a MS MVP - as this for
me stands for extraordinary deeds towards public in terms of technical
help and therefore also implying to a good communication towards / with
users in forums and NGs. This however has been proven non-existent in
the last month or so and really disappoints me. Additionally, it does
give AUMHA a bad look in a way which it uunderlinemight/underline
not have earned (I say might, as I am not subscribed in this forum and
only know it from online presence).

Thanks David for allowing this insight, it has finally proven which I
thaught off for a month now.

Regards,

Johannes
