Recovering files
I recently made a major screw-up and deleted about 300
files that I didn't want to. I wasn't worried as I knew I could run system restore. I ran it twice and the files never came back! Is there any way to recover these files? Some are music files but most are data files that I use on a regular basis. Help! |

Hi, First, Win98 does not have system restore, Next, if it did, it would only restore system files, not data. System restore in ME and XP is not the same as a backup. You will have to do a Google search for "data recovery". You must also stop using the hard drive now, as sectors that still have the "deleted" data are being written over. You must stop using it *completely* if you want to maximize any chance of recovering some of the files. mm |

There are many programs that can help you, but for instance a free program called Restoration can help. http://www.collina.us/files/REST2514.htm Of course the longer you wait and keep using your computer the more likely the items will be overwritten/lost - especially the recycle bin is the first to be overwritten - and for these reasons to get the maximum % possibility of recovery it's always advised not to even use the computer that you want to recover the deleted files from so that they don't get overwritten, and that you even download these recover programs right to a floppy disk and then use it from there. I endorse and agree with Rick Chauvin's response, if you need any further
reinforcement. -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP W95/98 Systems http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "DAJ" wrote in message ... I recently made a major screw-up and deleted about 300 files that I didn't want to.
