Default IE/desktop/computer hang ups

Not sure if this is a hardware or software problem. Everytime I close out
IE and attempt to double click on my desktop to open anything (my
computer.recycle bin or any program), my computer hangs up. I have a
Compaq, with Windows ME, keep all the updates installed and keep it
defragged etc. It only has 128MB of RAM, but is there anything I can do to
fix the problem??

Thanks

have you tried using Norton System Works? i swear by it. it has excellent
utilities for troubleshooting the system, hard disk etc. virtually
automatically. :-)

And has an even greater reputation of totally screwing up systems running
Win Me. So much so that I would most strongly recommend the original
poster NOT to use NSW or any other Symantec product on their system.

Well that's funny... WIndows ME is the platform I very successfully use
Norton System Works on. It just goes to show... every computer system is
different.

P.S. Go easy Mike... don't give yourself a coronary!

Well guys, I'm not sure I would try Norton again. I had bad blue screen
errors, posted to the group, and through various gracious responses was
finally able to clean up my computer. One of the problems being files still
left behind after I removed NAV.

Any other suggestions????

Thanks to you all..
