If you are connecting to the internet using a modem check that you don't
have it set to disconnect after a period of inactivity. To check thus:
Start | Settings | Dial Up Networking. Highlight the "connectoid" that
you use to connect to your ISP, right click and select Properties. Open
the Dialing tab and you should find towards the bottom a check box
labelled "Enable idle disconnect" together with other boxes allowing you
to set the idle time after which the system will disconnect, the amount of
bandwidth used below which the connection can be considered to be idle and
also whether a warning message is displayed before disconnection. Alter
these to suit your requirements,

Regards,

......exactly the same!
Go to the Network and Sharing Center
Click on Manage Network Connections
go to the connectoid r-click and select Properties
in Options, check that "Idle time before hanging up" is set to 'never'
OK out

ALSO - check that WinMail is not set to disconnect after fetching email.....
ToolsOptionsConnection
UNcheck "Hang up after sending and receiving"
OK out

Noel,

.... and Microsoft think that killing a NG on their server will make it go
away? My original post, to which Rick has replied, was posted by me on over
five years ago on 17 October 2004. :-)

They haven't killed this one (or any other of the list that was recently
published, AFAICT) yet.

ME - the OS that refused to die!
