Hello to all,
My oh my, I think I am loving all of these problems because the
learning process is invaluable; and here is another one.

First, I must tell you this has to do with a friends father who is using
XP and I already know I am in the wrong group, so if any answer this
I know it is out of the kindess of your heart, plus I know gary has xp too
so I am hoping he might answer or even email.
(btw, I dont just bring problems here, I do a lot of googling and checking
and re-checking; only when I cant resolve I come here with hat in hand,
plus I love this group)

My friends father had to re-instal a Hewlett Packard printer, problems are
the only thing he encountered.
He has had numerous emails with HP but no solution, hope someone here can
help.
Each time he goes through the wizard he gets 7/8's of the way through it
when it asks for USBSCAN.SYS file, and when he points it to where it is, he
gets this message:::

** THE SOFTWARE YOU ARE INSTALLING FOR THE
HARDWARE
HP PSC 1310 SERIES HAS NOT PASSED WINDOWS LOGO TESTING COMPATIBLY WITH
WINDOWS XP, CONTINUING YOUR INSTALLATION OF THIS SOFTWARE MAY IMPAIR
OR
DESTABILIZE THE CORRECT OPERATION OF YOUR SYSTEM EITHER IMMEDIATELY OR
IN
THE FUTURE, and two buttons under that message
Button 1 { continue anyway) or Button 2 { stop installation} so I
pressed
continue.
4. File Needed came up again so I loaded it from C:\windows \drive
5. Found New Hardware wizard :- cannot install this hardware there was
a

problem installing this hardware, hppsc 1310 series. WHY

**********************

Some of the above is his text either to me or to HPs help people.
Here is another thing also, he borrowed a canon printer and installed it;
it fired up and printed with no problems....... could his printer have a
problem?
It does seem unlikely as all he did was uninstal it then re-instal it.
Has anyone ever heard of a connection between the above needed file and the
WINDOWS LOGO?

At the moment, HP are telling him all sorts of things like 'download service
pack 1',
but he already has Pack2.

Truely hope you guys can help as he is 400 miles away and doesnt capiche
N/G's at all.

Many thanks for reply,

regards Jane

(but pretty please, dont forget my other post. I dont mind helping others
but

All your niceties mean absolutely nothing without adequate information to

Hello Lil' dav
I do hear you,
but you missed the point.
He has done all the HP things with no luck.
It was, after all, merely an Uninstal and Re-instal.
I honestly thought the information he supplied was enough;
it was showing that each time he was asked to produce the
'usbscan.sys file' it brought up the message as presented here.
He has also downloaded the 'usbscan.sys' and placed it in a
separate folder and pointed the installer to that area too, but it still
brings up the flippin' LOGO thing.
My last post on this, I just thought some of you used xp as well
and maybe a printer similar to his.

If I have offended in any way I do sincerly apologise.

Anything I present here is sheerly out of learning for myself and helping
others if possible.
Personal computer problems I also bring here as I use Win98, but only
after I beleive I have made every effort to rectify.
I have learned so much in the last month from here, niceties or otherwise,
and I thank everyone who has helped me.
I just thought the message he kept getting was a little silly to say the
least.
It kept asking him for a file of which he kept providing.
He is in a country town called Whyalla, if you look on a map you will see
he is pretty well isolated except for the internet and friends.
I dont know what is wrong with his installation, but I dont mind helping;
Time is something the troops around here dont allow me much of so I am
doing it as best I can.

regards Jane

I can't much help about the printer problem, but I have seen that
message a few times since I installed SP2. It seems that SP2
complains whenever a program that has not been "certified" to
be safe is installed. While this is good, becasue it will protect
your system from installing something bad, it is also a nuisance
\becasue a lot of applciation that are good have not been
certified, hence the message.

I really do hope that your friend finds the solution to his problem.
Whyalla? I hadn't heard of this country.. I am off to google!

Good luck

Hello, This may be of limited use for the problem. Sometimes it is not
enough to remove the printer software using add/remove. Make sure you have
the latest updates for that printer. Then uninstall the printer software and
remove the printer connection. Remove all links, folders etc. that the
removal program left. If possible use regedit to remove entries left behind
for that printer, in some cases this is causing the problem on reinstalling.
Reboot. Then attempt a fresh install using the latest drivers. For me this
process worked for a couple of HP products. Make sure backup is possible at
the very least a new system restore point.

Try searching in the printer groups listing the product as the research
item.
Take Care.

| Whyalla? I hadn't heard of this country.. I am off to google!

Whyalla is a seaport town in South Australia.

formerly called "Hummock Hill" it is a bustling town
of 25,000 people.
"where the outback meets the sea"

I think there should be decent IT advice somewhere in town.
