Yea, it's not up to the task of XP. The system just locks
up too often. It's not the worst thing, but the less computer literate who use the machine get stuck when programs simply stop. It's annoying to me too. My latest thought of having a smooth system is a clean re- install. I feel the system isn't the same since my enormous (ask Noel) virus/spyware infection last year. I don't have a disk but have read that the install program is in a Cab file, which I've searched for and verified the setup program is there. I could uninstall and reinstall (once I figure a way to get the folder on a disk, possibly through a burner at work) but all the critical updates would be quite the burden. I would follow the 'before you connect a new computer to the internet' guidelines recommended by HJT. Do you think a clean install could be better? Grasping at straws here g. Thanks, Joan. KB -----Original Message----- Your welcome, and as it sounds like your machine isn't up to running XP I'd stick with ME as it is a very good OS and you seem to have the right software to keep it clean, plus you still have SR in ME if you do get into too much trouble g Joan KB wrote: I guess the Yahoo Norton scan of the .doc attachment was the problem, although I don't have evidence to prove it other than that was the last time I used Word and it locked up immediately. I did get an email reply from an unknown source that said my message was undeliverable (and had reference to Netsky Worm at the end) but it wasn't from an email address that was familiar to any user of this machine. My Yahoo email uses the Norton scan. I use AVG on the machine along with Zone Alarm, Spybod, Adaware, IE Spyad, CWShredder and Spyware Blaster after learning the hard way and recovering with Noel's help. I need to read up on AVG to see if I can automatically scan emails with AVG so I can simply bypass the Norton in Yahoo and open attachments. I was seriously considering upgrading to XP. I don't have a CD burner and will have a little trouble getting some of the files off this system due to their size. That coupled with the fact that my hardware (printer, scanner, keyboard, etc.) aren't compatible with XP according to the compatibility check I did using the two hour download program. Now I'm considering procrastinating a little more. Thanks again, Joan. KB . |

You may wish to install one or the other. This is a very simple task. You must install the "burning software" to enable the recording features. The drive will read disks natively. Both Noel Paton and Mike M are old pros at this sort of thing, for their music and movies. "For more info you might want to have a look at Mike Richter's primer on CD writing and specifically his section on UDF http://www.mrichter.com/cdr/primer/udf.htm. Mike Maltby 3/20/2003 " I've lost their link to DVD recording information.
