Click the cancel button to continue booting. Then do a find on: *.pwl
and delete the one with your user name (mine is ron.pwl). Reboot and when the screen appears, use the same user name and create a blank password. Blank Password: Go to control panel, network, primary network logon and select Windows Logon. Go to control panel, passwords, user profiles and ensure the "all user's" box is marked. If you have a password established, go to control panel, passwords, change windows password, type the password in the old box, leave the rest blank and OK your way out. If you have forgotten your password, delete the .pwl file with your user name (mine is ron.pwl); however, be aware that you will lose all passwords stored in the ..pwl file. If you do not have a password established or have deleted the ..pwl file, when the W95/98 logon screen appears at boot, type a user name only and hit OK. If the logon screen continues to appear and you have Tweak UI installed, go to the Paranoia tab and remove the mark from "clear last user." -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "BryanP" wrote in message ... You can clear the password and create a new one, this way:
Start the computer. If the log-on box comes up to type in a user name and password, click Cancel. Click Start Find Files or Folders, choose the C: drive in the 'Look In' box, and in the 'Named' box, type: *.pwl Click Find Now. In the list of found files, right-click each file, and then click Delete. Repeat until all of the .pwl files are deleted. Close the Find box. Restart the computer. Log in as what ever name you want to create, leave the password box blank, and click OK...NOT Cancel. If it asks to confirm the password, leave it blank again and click OK. Afterwards, to find any desktop items or Start Menu items that you may not see, open Windows Explorer, expand the C:\Windows\Profiles folder tree, and drag needed items from the Start Menu and desktop subfolders for the profiles(s), to the C:\Windows\Start Menu folder tree, and the C:\Windows\Desktop folder.
