Default Windows slow after clean install

Hi,
I recently had to format my hard drive due to a crash and after I re
installed Win98 it is now running very slowly eg doudle clicking icons on the
desktop takes about 10seconds to open. Before the crash it was running fine.
If any one could help it would be great

What caused the first crash (eg, was there a problem with the hard disk or
the CPU, etc) and are you quite sure that you have properly fixed whatever
that original problerm was?
