Responses to Posts unavailable...... but intermittent

hi all,

Win98se, Outlook Express, (O/E) user.
I access this group via an account through o/e.

Recently and as far back as a month, maybe more, I have noticed
that I am not seeing responses to posts in this group and on
this server.

I have already liased with a few msvp's regarding this, but for anyone
else who has this prob, then follow this thread. (i'll try too, with luck)

I can see people posting, and can see their own responses to people
who have responded to them, but I cannot see the posts of the
actual people doing the responding.
This is not a 100% true and I believe that is worth mentioning.
Sometimes I can see a few 'responders', it has even happened in threads
that I've created myself;;;;; but at this point in time it is seldom.

If any here have had a similar problem, Plz feel free to jump in.

time of about 5 minutes in order to see my own post or a response.

I then re-set All groups on this server.

and the way I know this is via reading posts then reading the original
posters
response to the one or many responders that I cant see.

Open OE, click on tools, accounts and the news tab--do you have more than
one news account established? Highlight the news account and click
properties: for the server, do you have listed: msnews.microsoft.com ?
Do you have any news rules established? When you did the new .dbx file, was
there any indication (bottom edge of OE) that there are still files on the
server to be downloaded?

FWIW, I've been wondering about this--have seen some posts get deleted
between the time I download headers and then get to reading the posts--odd,
since I don't notice any objectionable content in the replies--.

I seen that too (even MVP posts) but it is not something that regularly
happens and not with the amount of posts that Gekko is missing.

OE Tools Options Read Get XX headers at a time (uncheck)

If no joy, Reset the newsgroup.

If still no joy, Your current Identity may be damaged, especially if its the
default Main Identity. Try one or more of your accounts in a new Named
Identity (File Identities Add new identity). Assuming all is well,
import messages from the old Identity before deleting it (File Identities
Manage Identities).

To avoid such corruption in futu

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [N/A in SP2] and frequently perform a manual
compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://insideoe.tomsterdam.com/files/maintain.htm.

- Do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if
Automatic Compacting is taking place (WinXP SP2 only).

- Your anti-virus application's email scanning feature can also cause such
corruption. Disable it. It provides no additional protection.

well, at least I got your response.
Yes, I have a few accounts under my news tab, and yes, one is
msnews.microsoft.com.
I have news rules established on my i.s.p's server for other groups,
mainly to minimize the spam intake.
When I see that there are more files downloadable on the server,
(bottom left) I will usually get the next thousand headers.
