No protocol for wireless adapter (also using dial-up)

Unfortunately I can't lay hands on the URL for the process to reset the
TCP/IP stack in WindowsMe, so I'm crossposting this to the .general
newsgroup where several of my fellow gurus hang out and often have better
memory subsystems than I do. :-)

Yes, I just did this. Now there is signal strength. However, there is

system does nothing. In fact, even if I highlight Client or Service,
the
system still does nothing.

Solution
Uninstall TCP/IP and the Communications package, remove the Winsock2

The list box is supposed to show Accessibility, Accessories, Address Book,
Communications, Desktop Themes, etc with checkboxes in front of each one, but
instead shows nothing. When I click Have Disk, I eventually browse to
c:\windows\options\install\ and I tried all the 4 .inf files there, but all
of them still had the list box empty with nothing to install or un-install.

The VarLDID "patch" is normally for where the user is seeing setupx errors
when attempting to access Add/Remove Programs | Windows Setup due to the
use of a registry cleaner after deleting certain empty folders in the
Program Files folder placed there during the install.

An empty Windows Setup window is often indicative of more that just
problems with the
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Set up\VarLDID key (the
"patch" you refer to is the fully populated key) but also possibly damaged
or missing entries in the
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Set up\OptionalComponents
key. I'll be happy to supply the OP with a reg file including both keys
if they contact me.

Thanks. In both of the registry locations mentioned above there are
entries, though
it seems something may be corrupted.

Also, I believe that somewhere in the registry is the "TCP/IP Protocol" that
appears in
the My Network Places / Properties listbox (it may say something like
"TCP/IP -
Dial-Up Adapter"). If you can export this registry key that would likely
help too, and
might be the most useful. That way I could import the registry file and
would create a
"TCP/IP" entry for me, as adding it through My Network Places / Properties
- Add -
Protocol - Add is not working (ie. the problem of the original post of this
thread).

It's going to be a little hassle because my computer has no internet
connectivity, so
I think I'll have to copy whatever files to a 1.44MB floppy disk on another
computer,
then put that disk into my computer so that I can get the files.
Alternatively, if the file
is very short then I could just type it out again on my computer, like
copying it
manually.

Anyway, I found out about the following command: scanreg /restore,
which restores the registry to a previous state. Using this I got back
my previous settings.

Now when I bind "D-Link AirPlus DWL-G520 Wireless PCI Adapter
(rev.B)" to the TCP/IP, then internet explorer, file explorer, and
Outlook Express cease to work. I'll start a new thread about this problem.
