Yes and AFAIC the UI is much more user-friendly.
The beta for AVG 7 Free is currently available and has been working fine on 2 machines here for several weeks. -- ~PA Bear Jeff Turner wrote: PA Bear, Does AV update the virus definitions like NAV does? Thanks. Jeff Turner "PA Bear" wrote in message ... If you like NAV (I don't), upgrade/subscribe to NAV 2005. NAV 2001 is simply too old (and your next subscription will prolly be about $5 less than getting NAV 2005). If you don't or wanna save money and at the same time run a reliable AV app that doesn't clog up your system as NAV can [IMHO], uninstall NAV and install free version of AVG or any of the others freecheap ones out there. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE), AH-VSOP WinXP SP2: What's New for Internet Explorer and Outlook Express http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/s...eoverview.mspx What You Should Know About Spyware http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...e/default.mspx There is no 'silver bullet' solution to hijackware http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=33131 Jeff Turner wrote: Dear Help group, My Computer is Windows 98 SE, AMD, Athlon XP 1800+, 384 MB RAM I protect it with Norton Anti-Virus 2001 (always updated with new def.), Zone Alarm firewall, Spybot S&D, Adaware. My question is about the Norton Anti Virus. When I purchased the first annual def. update it was about $ 9.00. the next year it was about $ 19.00. Am I doing the correct things to protect my PC? Should I continue to purchase the Norton AV updates or switch to another software protection? Your help will be appreciated. Thanks. Jeff Turner Gates Mills, Ohio |

Nigel, Thanks. I think NAV is just about history. Jeff Turner Not so fast.. ..here's something to think about with you W9x.. Hi Jeff, When it comes to 'specifically' 'NAV 2001 and W9x' ..imho, it's the best antivirus and especially considering since you're already use to it... ....However, without question I would nOt update/install to any other version of NAV (now sav) or you will be sorry - I have lots of testing experience with all versions of nav/sav - and can't stand and disrespect any of the newer versions for a number of reasons, and like PABear and others said the newer versions of nav/sav can mess up your system especially W98; but again, the single install retail version of nav 2001 is exceptional for W98 ....you may not be happy with anything else if you change.. of course ymmv. When David said 2001 is out of date that certainly is not true at all. It has an excellent scan engine, has a simple non-precarious install Un-like the newer versions, and imho it's the best version Norton ever made for W9x. I still enjoy to use v2001 on my W9x box, but use NOD32 on my W2k & WXP box. I've tried every other antivirus program on the planet and personally didn't care for them compared to what I've expressed, but, as you know the subject of "which antivirus is the best" ...well you will get as many different answers as there are people. Rick,
Thank you so much for your comments. These are very important considerations. Jeff Turner "Rick Chauvin" wrote in message ... Jeff Turner wrote: Nigel, Thanks. I think NAV is just about history.
