Why did they change the format of the Newsgroup?
Is there any way or where thot it can still be viewed
like it was 2wks ago?
I can understand the login and instant mess but the
post and replies are a lot harder to navagate.

You don't have to use Internet Explorer. See if this is
helpful.

To connect directly to this site, copy the following into your browser's
Address Bar. After this, you will no longer need to connect through the
CDO. You will use Outlook Express to access the NG.

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...gen_discussion
However,
(1) At "OE, Tools menu, Message Rules, News", create a Message Rule to
delete posts older than, say, 10 days. Also check "stop processing more
rules".
(2) At "Tools, Options, Read tab", uncheck "Get xxx headers at a time".
(3) R-Clk the NG in the left pane, Synchronize Settings, set to All
Messages.
(4) Click "Tools, Synchronize Newsgroup"

(Now, it is a bit tricky. When I click one of those things, it gets
right to it. One really need stop it & get that rule in. I do believe,
it will then not download older than the rule specifies.)

Posts older than 10 days will not download. Posts that age on your
machine after the download are your responsibility to delete, by
occasionally going to that rule & clicking "Apply Now". After that,
compact: "OE, File menu, Folder, Compact all folders".

Colorado disagrees, but there is a cave-dwelling MVP around, who says...

(1) "OE, Tools, Options, Maintenance tab".
(2) Uncheck "Delete news messages x days after being downloaded".
(3) Uncheck "Compact messages in the background".

Thanks or Good Luck,
There may be humor in this post, and,
Naturally, you will not sue,
should things get worse after this,

My question exactly!

And for those that say that "nothing" has changed, you all must be looking
at a different web page or using a different method of accesing this info.
Before I go any further I want to say that the folks that have been answering
my "computer" questions have been a life saver. OK, maybe not a life saver,
but it sure has helped.

The question still stands, what happened?

I definetely agree with Robert and Deuce. There has been a Format change. The
best part of the new Format is that the opening of a question brings up all
the replies in the same page(s). The nuisance that I experience is that,
frequently, it takes a relatively long time for all to settle in the primary
windows (left and right panes) before I can have any control on any task.

MS has changed the look of their entire site, including the CDO =
interface which you use and the KB.

The reason others aren't seeing a difference in the NG's is because =
they are using OE or possibly another locally installed =
email/newsreader. The choice is yours on whether to use the CDO or not.

I welcome any comments/suggestions on the above if anything is =
missing/incomplete.
