Cyberlink PowerProducer
Has anyone managed to install Cyberlink's PowerProducer 3 or
PowerProducer 2.0 Gold on a Win98SE system? Installshield aborts the installation after telling me that "The installation will be terminated at this time. This software is intended for Windows 98 SE, ME, 2000 or above versions only." The same thing happens on two other Win98SE systems, one of which belongs to a friend. I've tried three distributions of PP2 Gold, one that came bundled with some AV capture hardware, another that was supplied on a magazine cover CD, and the third from Cyberlink Tech Support. The trial version of PP3 from Cyberlink's web site also exhibits the same symptoms. I suspect these products have been misrepresented. My pleas to Cyberlink to test the software on their own Win98 boxes have been ignored. - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email. |

After they did so, I was able to resolve my installation issue. The problem is that Cyberlink's installer (Installshield) is not configured to detect Win98SE version B. This is because Cyberlink's lab PC is still at version "A". Win98SE becomes version "B" after installing Microsoft's Security Update CD (Feb 2004): http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;158238 I have now managed to install PP2 Gold by editing my registry. I did not need to reinstall Windows, as was suggested by Cyberlink. My workaround was to temporarily modify the SubVersionNumber parameter at the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion Changing the value from "B" to "A" allowed the installation to proceed. - Franc Zabkar -- Please remove one 'i' from my address when replying by email. |

Cyberlink PowerProducer
Thanks for the followup, Franc. Now that you mentioned it, I recall reading a while
back about some other software having the same problem from the same cause, but I have forgotten what it was or where I read it. Maybe now it will stick in my memory! -- Glen Ventura, MS MVP Shell/User, A+ http://dts-l.org/goodpost.htm "Franc Zabkar" wrote in message ...
