Default OPERATING SYSTEM NOT FOUND

I started getting this after the computer froze and I rebooted it. I tried
SYS C with the startup floppy, nothing. I also ran scan disk and hard drive
utility and I don't believe the drive is defective. I had another drive in
the PC as slave and changed it to master and the same thing happens. The CMOS
battery is ok as well. I have no idea how this happened or what to try!

Thanks

It sounds like you can get to the C:\ prompt, so can you get to SafeMode?
Perhaps your HDD ribbon cable is defective.
Do you get any beeps when you boot up?
Perhaps you need to let your BIOS re-find your HDDs.

I only get to the message "Operating System not found" . I will try the
ribbon cable. Yes, I do get beep right when the message appears. The Bios
does show the hard drive in the listings.

If you boot off the Win98 Emergency Boot Disk, can you see drive "C:" ?

If not....
Go to the hard disk manufacturer's web site and download their diagnostic software
respective to your hard disk. After the test, you will know if the hard disk is bad or
not..
