Default Maintenance Wizard - Disk Scan & Disk Degramentation

I am connected to the internet by cable. Recently I found
that when I do disk maintenancem the Maintenance Wizard
system can no longer scan the disk, or defragment the disk.
Is there a fix for this. It won't be long before the
system just runs down, because I can't do maintenance. If
you know of a fox please sent it to .
Thanking you in advance, Joe DiMaggio

I don't do email support and you really should not ask for it. When a
response is posted in the newsgroup, a lot of people are going to review it
and make sure that the answer is correct or at least that it will not do any
harm to your PC. When you get an email, no one can review it to ensure it
has good information. Finally, when you use a valid email address in a
public newsgroup, chances are you are going to get tons of spam and emails
with a virus attached.

When you ask for help, tell exactly what is wrong--not that something
doesn't work anymore. What does it do? Perhaps these references will help:
