98 Will not install network card
I've tried 4 network cards, 3 (PCI) slots, trying to get Win98 to install a
network card, with varying; degress of success. I did manage to get it working once, but then when I added a USB card to another slot, it totally screwed up and I have been unable to get a network card to install. It seems to find the card OK, it's in Device manager and Network properties, looks fine, no errors or anything, but simpley will not work. Tried enabling. Did a bootlog analyzer thing, and ran ASD and sometimes it shows TCPIP not loading. When I force it to load be deselecting from ASD (AutomaticSkip Device utility) the computer hangs either on startup or shutdown. Even after I took the offending USB card out still cannot get network card to work, let alone USB device. This computer originally had a modem in it, an running IPConfig sometime binds the NIC to PPP... weird for sure. Anyway this must be solveable, but I"m about ready to boat anchor this baby. Bye the way, when it was netorked, I managed to get all the latest updates and upgrades for Windows 98 SE and Internet Explorer 6, so we should be in good shape...but... |

98 Will not install network card
That looks like an IRQ Sharing problem.
See this Q&A that deals with that kind of problem: http://www.pcbuyerbeware.co.uk/USBProblems.htm#irq Eric, http://www.pcbuyerbeware.co.uk/ http://www.sharedbirthday.co.uk/ -----Original Message----- I've tried 4 network cards, 3 (PCI) slots, trying to get Win98 to install a network card, with varying; degress of success.
