Default .NET Framework on Windows 98 SE

Does the .NET Framework come standard on Windows 98 SE? I'm thinking about
getting VB Express Edition or C# Express Edition. If the .NET Framework
doesn't come standard on Windows 98 SE, does the ClickOnce setup program
install the .NET Framework on the PC? Thank you.

No, and it couldn't, as it didn't exist when 98 was introduced.

I'm thinking about getting VB Express Edition or C# Express Edition.

Then you'll need a new OS.

"Operating System
Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
Windows XP Service Pack 2
Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1
Windows x64 editions
Windows Vista"

If the .NET Framework
doesn't come standard on Windows 98 SE,

It does not.

It does, and has to, as there is a requirement that
"Before installing, you must uninstall any previous versions
of SQL Server 2005, Visual Studio 2005, and the .NET Framework 2.0."

Thank you.

OK, a recap. .NET Framework doesn't come standard on Windows 98 SE. Windows
98 SE does support .NET Framework. I browsed around the Microsoft website &
found out that Windows 98 SE is included as a supported OS for .NET
Framework. OK, so which version of .NET Framework does Windows 98 SE support?
Does it support version 2 or version 1.1?

I have XP with service pack 2. So, I'd install VB.NET or C# on my PC. Once
I've created a program that I want to distribute, does the ClickOnce setup
program have the option of installing the .NET Framework on a PC with Windows
98 SE?

Thank you.

Both of them are supported on W98SE, etc. It also says v2 installs the
..NET Framework runtime and associated files required to run applications
developed to target the .NET Framework v2.0

Look under the paragraph heading "System Requirements" ..Supported OS's on
each of these links below, and for any other information.

v2.0 redistributable package

v1.1 Redistributable Package

You would not create an installation package that included .NET - it's too
large. Instead, create the package so that it tells the user to download
and install the runtime.
