My problem is that for several months I have been unable
to scan or defrag. It starts for 10 times then informs me another program is writing to it. What do I do to fix this problem? |

Get Xteq Systems X-Setup (http://www.xteq.com). This is a freeware
utility that lets you get control of every aspect of windows. It contains a section called shutdown/startup, where you can set scandisk and/or defrag to run before anything else (that can interfere with scandisk or defrag). That alone is a lifesaver. Immediately at powerup hit F8 key, this will place you in
Safe Mode. Then try scandisk and defrag. This worked for me. -----Original Message----- My problem is that for several months I have been unable to scan or defrag. It starts for 10 times then informs me another program is writing to it. What do I do to fix this problem? . |

-----Original Message----- My problem is that for several months I have been unable to scan or defrag. It starts for 10 times then informs me another program is writing to it. What do I do to fix this problem? . I have had the same problem. It will work if you start in "safe mode". When you start your computer, once the screen comes on - hold down the control key. This should bring you to a different screen. Use arrow key to select "safe mode" - then press enter. You can scan disk and defragment in safe mode; restart the computer. This will help your computer to work faster (better). I am still researching how to find what program is writing to the C drive... good luck! |
