IE6 Problem
(Cross-post to Win98 Networking added)
"Lou" wrote in message ... "Robert Aldwinckle" wrote in message ... "Lou" wrote in message ... I cannot access the Internet with IE6. My home page address shows in the blue line at the top of the screen. The buttons 'stop', 'home', favorites', etc. show. The rest of the screen is blank and there is no hard drive activity. Is it possible my IE6 is corrupted? How can I find out or repair it if I can not access any web pages? You could start by disclosing your OS. ; } WIN 98SE I'm not familiar with that OS but do think that it seems to be deficient of diagnostic tools especially for probable connectivity issues such as this. Diagnosis is the tack that I would normally take on NTx systems. You at least have simpler repair possibilities in that OS, including the possibility of simply reinstalling IE if necessary. E.g. you could try an IE Repair via Run... (press Win-R and enter): rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance However, first I think you should explore your symptoms to make sure we understand what you are seeing and why. For example, try changing your Home Page to About Blank (Alt-T,O,Alt-B) If that opens normally next try opening this page http://www.fiddlertool.com/useragent.aspx and report your observations for that. The point is that this is probably a much simpler page than whatever you are currently using as a Home Page and will aid further discussion without asking for you to reveal your Home page in any case. Since you are using OE as your newsreader you should actually be able to open it by clicking on the above link. If not, use right-click Copy Shortcut then switch to IE and enter Ctrl-o, Ctrl-v, Enter (e.g.) If the page does not open properly report any changes you notice happening in the: Status bar, Title bar and Address bar. Good luck Robert --- |
