Hmmm... Haven't tried that one. How is it for user-friendliness?

There's a learning curve with any new (AV) app. Users to whom I've
recommended it (vs AVG) like it and have ventured no complaints/problems.
AntiVir shares the same database as Avira's more high-end apps.

Gary,

I ran downloaded and ran the upgraded AVG, there were no viruses on my
system. I downloaded and ran the upgraded Ad-Aware, it found about
400 objects that I quaranteened. But my IE problem, with the
extremely slow loading of web pages, persists. So now it looks like
the next step is Hijack This.

I'm curious to see what your HJT log looks like. Why don't you post a
link to the Web forum you're using?

BTW how many other AV use that questionable proxy technique
exhibited by ashWebSv.exe? Is it a default or a user choice?
I think when performance issues come up for IE we should ask
if something like it is in effect. To be "On Topic" here w
would Larry's AVG be doing something similar too?

I just checked out a couple of these forums. They're talking about a
four-five day wait before someone looks at the Hijack This log.

web page. Also, when saving new material or changes at my weblog, it
takes a long long time for the Save to occur, so it seems the problem
is not just on my local machine, which makes no sense. Dell Tech
support told me last night my download and upload speed is fine, so
that's not the problem.

I just did a Spybot S+D on my system after updating Spybot S&D, and
that hasn't fixed the problem.

I thought of updating my Zone Alarm, which I hadn't updated in a long
time, but at its website, it says:

"Attention: Win 98SE/Me support discontinued"

I have Windows 98 first edition, so I guess Zone Alarm doesn't even
work my system any more? What firewall should I use for Windows 98
since Zone Alarm doesn't support Windows 98?

I'm trying to update my AVG free anti-virus program, but I can't get
it to go online to get the update, it keeps prompting me to browse in
my computer for the update, which makes no sense. In any case, could
a virus explain the kind of problem I'm having?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Default Browser barely working--posted Hijack This log at CastleCops

I registered at Castle Cops forum. Here's the link where I posted my
question and my HijackThis Log, under the nickname Dunlop. I guess I just
have to wait now and keep checking back. Any suggestions on what to do next
other than wait?

http://www.castlecops.com/p916098-IE...ll.html#916098

These online forums are a complicated, confusing environment. I mean the
number of different forums, and figuring out where you are located.

For example, I successfully posted my comment with the copy of the HJ log,
and I am looking at it, but that page does not link me to a list of comments
where my comment is listed along with others. I'm not even sure which forum
my comment is in, though I initially chose the HJ forum. It's insanely
complicated.

Thanks,
Larry
