Unable to get Windows 98 SE to load on P4

I am trying to install Windows 98 SE on a 2.4 P4 Celeron, 512 meg memory, 40
gig hdd. (HP systems) (Same condition has occurred on 2 pc's that are the
same.) Operating system will load and restart and get to the black screen
saying (Continuing to load Windows, and stops there. have left it setting 24
hours and it doesn't move. Need to load 98 because of the software used (10
year old and attaches to Novell 3.x server). Have tried repartitioning drive
to 10 gig with but get the same stop. Is there anything I can try to do to
get 98 to load. (Is valid copy, found software and license that was shipped
with some pc's but never opened.)

How many times have you run SETUP.EXE?
CPUs faster than 2.1 MHz may encounter the
NDIS incompatibility, allegedly fiixed by MS's
patch, but this runs only under Win98 i.e. the
OS must be installed first.
In my case SETUP repeatedly hung at the
second reboot -- but at about the 5th or 6th
attempt (for no known reason) rebooted OK
and completed installation of Win98.
You may find it worth trying again.
