Unable to load "unicows.dll" when starting Adobe Reader
I am getting this error message when trying to start the
Adobe Reader 6.0 program; "Unable to load required component 'unicows.dll' " I have used the reader before without a prob. so I am at a loss as to what happened since I last used it. I upgraded to the Adobe 6.0.2.. version when it (suddenly) wouldn't open a PDF file, but that didn't help. Have also uninstalled & re-installed 2X & have not found any worthwhile help about "unicows.dll" at the Microsoft or Adobe sites. I found 3 unicows.dll files on my hard drive and moved the newest of these files into windows/system, as well. Any suggestions or fixes would be appreciated. Thanks. Ron Smith |

Ron,
The unicows.dll problem seems to be a commonly reported problem with those using Acrobat 6 and Win Me and other Win 9x systems. The problem seems to be with Acrobat rather than the operating system. Many have given up and returned to using Acrobat 5 which if nothing else means they are using a lighter meaner version than the cumbersome v6. For myself I have never bothered installing v6 on my Win Me boxes and have stuck with v5.05 on one box and v5.1 on the other. If you really want to use v6 I feel you are going to need to get help from Adobe since, as I said, the problem is with their application. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Ron Smith wrote: I am getting this error message when trying to start the Adobe Reader 6.0 program; "Unable to load required component 'unicows.dll' " I have used the reader before without a prob. so I am at a loss as to what happened since I last used it.
