Uninstall Toshiba Easy Internet?

Hello,

Fresh install of OEM Win98SE on a Toshiba Satellite 1605CDS laptop (new in
2000). Installed Mozilla Firefox and Mozilla Thunderbird for internet access
and email. I'm giving this laptop to my sister and don't want to confuse
her, so I'm removing anything I feel is extraneous. Does anyone know if I
may safely uninstall Toshiba Easy Internet from Control Panel Add/Remove
Programs or is it required to remain installed for reasons of which I'm not
aware?

Quick and dirty test.
1. If the Toshiba Internet software has its own
folder (directory) in C:/Program Files, just rename
that folder (by adding x to the end.) You can do
this in DOS if Windows tries to protect it.
2. Then reboot. No file calls to /Toshibax can
be executed so you may get some error messages.
The main question is whether everything else works
OK i.e. can you connnect with the Internet via
Mozilla software, download normally, read email
and newsgroups or whatever? If not, rename the
folder correctly.
3. If with the folder renamed /Toshibax you can do
everything you want for several days, this suggests
you can (rename /Toshiba correctly and) uninstal the
software.

Thanks, Don. Did as you instructed (renamed C:\Program Files\Easy Internet
folder to Easy Internetx). On reboot, received no error messages. Set up a
TB email account. Tested send. Ok. Tested receive. OK. Launched FF web
browser. OK. Internet download. OK. I'll go a day or two with this, but
expect it won't be a problem to uninstall Toshiba Easy Internet.

Responding to my own post to add another question. Just about ready to ship
this laptop off to my sister, but...after uninstalling Toshiba Easy Internet
(via Add/Remove Programs), a window appeared stating that these files had to
be removed manually:

When in doubt, I keep a folder on my PC called
\Discard\
and simply move there any folders about which I
am doubtful. If nothing bad happens for a week or
a month, I know when it comes to mind that these
can be deleted: but they have been temporarily
kept in case it would save time to move them back.

1. Surviving folders of uninstalled applications can
be safely deleted at once.
2. If you are uncertain about survivors, send them to
\Discard\ for the time being.
3. If at reboot you get error messages, write them down.
3a. SYSTEM.INI and WIN.INI can be edited by hand
to remove file calls to uninstalled files. The uninstal
routine is supposed to do that anyway, but no programmer
is perfect.
3b. Obsolete file calls may survive in the Registry, where
they can also be deleted by hand, but I would not bother
unless they generate error messages.
