is xp worth it
I have been using Millenium for approx 3 years and have
had very few crashes (touch wood)!!!. I am considering upgrading to XP as I think this is the way forward. My question is simple. Should I upgrade or wait or for the next version of windows? By the way - my computer is up to spec ie Athlon xp2000, 60gig hard drive, 512mb ram, 128mb graphics card etc |

question is simple. Should I upgrade or wait or for the
next version of windows? It could be quite a long wait as I don't expect the successor to XP to ship until late 2006 at the earliest. That operating system is code named "Longhorn" and has yet to enter formal testing although a couple of alpha builds have been released to developers. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP brian wrote: I have been using Millenium for approx 3 years and have had very few crashes (touch wood)!!!. If your WindowsMe system is stable and does everything you need it to do,
why spend the money on a Windows XP upgrade? Your system would be a very good Windows XP computer, the specs are quite acceptable. But if what you have makes you happy now ... keep the money and buy a nice dinner for yourself and a guest instead. :-) -- Richard G. Somebody call my name? :-)
Actually, I've been itching to share this story for a while now ... as most of the regulars here know, I'm a system administrator for a fair-sized WAN (three sites, 12 servers, approx. 250 PCs) which is in turn hooked up to a larger corporate WAN. We have everything from Windows Server 2003 to AIX, Windows XP to Windows 95. On a shelf in the back of the tech work area we have one "emergency" laptop that we use whenever we need to start checking issues on the network. It's not allowed to be used for anything else so it's known "clean" if that's an issue. It runs Windows Millennium Edition. 'nuff said. ;-) -- Richard G. Now that I like. vbg
IMO Win Me's SFP puts it streets ahead of the other 9x operating systems provided that one doesn't want to run geriatric applications requiring real mode or have a love affair with Symantec. -- Mike Richard G. There seem to be plenty in these newsgroups who appear to believe the word of
Symantec as if it were the Gospels. I can never understand why since they haven't produced anything innovative for a decade or more. -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Noel Paton wrote: No-one's *that* perverted, Mike, surely? |
