Default PING MIKE.....Dang Icons!

What the heck was that virus that mucked up icons?? You solved one just
a short while ago and I am too lazy to look it up, lol.

AHA.....Magistr, right? Just ran a Google.

SGB.....don't know what antivirus you are using, but please run it and
if it comes up clean, then try one of the online scanners.

Just a WAG.....Heather

Found a zip file through PC World. I unzipped, and installed it. It
does not
work.

Icons still have a life of their very own; changing their residences
like a
criminal on the run.

Ugh!

I tried downloading the software from
http://www.softforall.com/Desktop/Ic...op03040004.htm,

but
that does not work.
It reads:
File Not Found:
For some reason, the file you are looking for on WinSite is not here.
It
could be that you have an old link, the file was replaced with a
newer
version, or has been removed from the collection. The first thing you

should
do is try a search. Please enter the program name or keyword(s)
below:

Nothing to be found when I d that either.

By the way...

Ad-Aware/Ad-Watch and Spybot S&D.
No problems there.

None of which is an antivirus application. Have you checked that you
might have picked up Magistr from somewhere?

As Mike said, neither of those programs are an antivirus
program.....they are simply Adware detection.

Try Trend Housecall or Panda or Symantec......any of the online
scanners. Usually if you have a virus you are prevented from accessing
your resident AV.....which you appear not to have.

I can't believe you don't have one.....does AVG ring a bell?? That is a
free one you can download at www.grisoft.com Or Avast is OK as well.
Not to forget EZ Trust has a free one year trial.

Scan first......we will then see if Magistr is what is causing the
problems.

Start by doing an online virus scan at somewhere like Trend Micro's
Housecall (http://www.trendmicro.com/hc_intro/default.asp).

As to which AV to install that rather depends on what you want and how
much you want to pay but if you are a bit mean like me there's nothing
much wrong with any of the following all of which are Win Me friendly.
eTrust from Computer Associates. Free one year offer via
http://store.digitalriver.com/DRHM/S...PCtrialUS.html
AVG Free from Grisoft (http://free.grisoft.com)
Avast! from Atwil (http://www.avast.com/)

Ok, let's start again............right click on your desktop, hover your
pointer over "Arrange icons by" and from the slide out menu, tell me what
you have a checkmark next to. Note: Save My Desktop will NOT work if you
have Auto Arrange checked!!!.....WinMe and Save My Desktop will be fighting
for superiority and I have a sneaky suspicion that is where you are.

Sweetcheeks.......Trend Housecall is not a downloadable program. It IS
an online scanner. There are several of them. And you deserve a good
spanking for not using an antivirus proggie. OK?? (G)

I happen to use eTrust and like it.....in fact I have used it for about
7 years. So at least we know you do not have the Magistr virus which
causes the icons to move away from the cursor.

Now....be a good girl and follow Heirloom's advice.....what do you have
for a setting for your desktop icons??
