Uninstalling IE
Hi. Does anyone know how I would go about uninstalling IE5
without the uninstall option in Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel? For some wacked out reason, my IE6 turned into IE5 and I have no idea how (IE5, version 6.0!! figure that one out!?)! I need to uninstall this mess manually but I don't have a clue as to how to go about doing this. I have been to the MSKB and they are of no help. Can someone give me hope? Thx. |

Hi, First, download IE6 SP1 from Windows Update catalog(there is an option to download the files instead of installing it up while online) or you can find it on the Security CD if you have it. Then download and run IEradicator: http://www.litepc.com/ieradicator.html Install IE6 SP1 and return to Windows update to ensure the latest patches are installed. If you don't have the Security CD, you can order it so you have it for future use. It is free. http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/cd/order.asp mm |

Uninstalling IE
Since IEradicator is extreme surgery, make sure you first save all
your e-mail messages to a different folder. (In OE: File / Export / Messages). George "Sue" wrote in message ... Hi. Uninstalling IE
My suggsestion to Sue: if you don't know what you're doing, you might want
to consider leaving well enough alone. Changing versions of IE like this is not for the light-hearted. It would be nice to know how this happened, though. Or, if you want to bite the bullet just a bit, you could probably get away with an overinstall of IE6 - cause at least you're not trying to go backwards. As George said below, using IEeradicator is extreme surgery. George wrote: Since IEradicator is extreme surgery, make sure you first save all your e-mail messages to a different folder. Uninstalling IE
Overinstall IE6-SP1, this time with your anti-virus application closed:
First, close *everything* via CTRL+ALT+DEL except Windows Explorer (includes your AV program, Scheduled Tasks, Screensaver, and going offline). StartRunIE6Setup.exe. Select Minimal - Custom; Select all the parts you use, including OE (but none you didn't originally download) and overinstall. Should take about 2 minutes. Reboot the computer. Now, with AV and all other running processes still closed, check in at Windows Update. -- HTH - Please Reply to This Thread ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE/OE), AH-VSOP AumHa Forums http://forum.aumha.org Protect Your PC http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect Sue wrote: Hi.
