Floppy disc drive

Many thanks. My neighbour is in his seventies and wants this computer to
last as long as he does.

Have installed new floppy disk drive, a lot easier than I thought. Scandisk
did a complete scan. Some entries on some floppies cannot be brought up but
anything new I do seems to be fine so I assume some of the disks might be
damaged because of the bad floppy disk drive, the problem seems mainly on
Words 2000 entries.
Ended up having to get a technician to install the fan, had to bypass the
plug in the mother board, it just wouldnt work, so technician has wired it
into the power supply. Many thanks
I have posted another question today re SMARTUI in win98 general. problems
seem to follow me.

Hmm, missed that new post somehow.

Glad you got the hardware issues corrected [fan in particular], but still
recommend testing memory, motherboard, and other aspects for failures or
potential failures prior to much more attempted work with floppy disks.

There are a number of people here that can guide you through various
testing aspects.
