Default "Unrecognized Object Name" when trying to import Scan into Adobe Acrobat 5.00

Using OS Win98SE and Agfa Snapscan 1212u (USB).
When I try to import scan directly into Acrobat 5,0
it stops with the error message "Unrecognized object name"

When I used Win98 I never had this problem.
A search on the net shows that other people have experienced
the same problem, but no soloution on how to solve it has
been found. I do not know if Win98SE is the problem since
this installation is on another machine but I suspect there must
be something related to Win98SE and USB.

Any idea on how to find out what causes the problem?
I did not find anything at www.adobe.com.
Again any help is appreciated
Thanks
C.
