any fix for Internet
Hi lshsl
During Internet communication there is a protocol used by computers to transfer data between equipments. This protocol (TCP/IP) uses basically to ways to identify a remote computer: what we call numeric data (192.168.2.1) and human readable data such as internet addresses. The computer by itself cannot understand human readable addresses. In order to do that your ISP should provide a DNS server. DNS servers are equipments designed to translate human readable addresses to numeric addresses. The most obvious fix to your problem is to check the DNS address in your network configuration (Control Panel Network TCP/IP Properties DNS). By default Windows assignst the value "Obtain DNS addresses automatically". This will not always work with all computers. Your ISP provider can give you the IP addresses used for such purpose. If you already have this setup, and it is not working, there's a test you can do to see if your conf files are not corrupted. Go to MS-DOS (Start Run Command) and type the following instruction: ping localhost -t you should see something like: Pinging (localhost 127.0.0.1) This means your files are ready for DNS interpretation. If an error ocurrs then you may need to completelly remove all communication files and setup your ISP connection again. It's my believing that this problem also does not allow you to browse the Internet normally. If you are browsing normally and the problem only resides in the Ping instruction I do not recommend you to re- install the communication files, if you are not an expert it can give you a hard time. If you would like to try and fet this fixed, backup your data and complete the instructions in the following link. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/181599/en-us Good Luck wrote: Using win98se and page cannot be displayed.
