HELP You should try booting into Safe Mode (by holding down either F8 or Ctrl while booting.) If you get no screen activity, try a different monitor; the old one may be kaput. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |

computer won't stay on and screen won't light up???
I tried to hold both F8 and ctrl key but niether work...any other ideas? The
screen works with another hard drive so I am almost sure it's not the monitor. "Don Phillipson" wrote: "Becky" wrote in message ... When you *hold_down* the Ctrl or F8 keys during startup, do you get a
stuck-key error? Usually, I suggest rapidly tapping the F8 key from the moment the machine begins to crank up. This avoids the possibility of a stuck-key error and also avoids the need to guess at when the right moment occurs. That said, your problem sounds more like a bad power supply or something even more serious -- bad CPU fan, bad CPU, bad RAM... All of these things can cause the kind of behavior you're seeing. I don't think your system is even getting to the point where the F8 or Ctrl keys can be used. Nor do I think it's the monitor. -- Gary S.
