Intel App Accelerator are my CD-ROM drive
I recently installed the Intel Application Accelerator v 2.3.0.2160 after a
W98SE reinstall -- it makes a perceptible difference on my 450mhz/384mb RAM machine. All was well after the repeated series of reboots needed to install Windows etc. But after powering up this am, I noted that my internal CD-ROM drive had vanished from Explorer and Device Manager. (Note that my external CD burner is there and working fine.) A short search revealed that this was a known bug with the Intel App Accel under W98, but only in previous versions, and was apparently fixed. Or not. My BIOS reports the primary drive 0 & secondary drive 0 present (hd and CDRW) but no secondary drive "1" if that matters. As I prepare to scour the net for ideas, does anyone know the cause/solution? If the BIOS is not seeing the drive and you have it jumpered correctly and
the cables are OK, then its possible the drive died. Can you try it in a different PC? -- Regards Ron Badour, MS MVP for W98 Tips: http://home.satx.rr.com/badour Knowledge Base Info: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo "JLJ" wrote in message t... Intel App Accelerator are my CD-ROM drive
Hi JLJ,
See if this article helps you to resolve the problem: Troubleshooting Issues with Devices Disappearing http://www.intel.com/support/chipset.../cs-009286.htm You have stated that your CDRW, the device recognized by BIOS as being on the secondary controller, is an external device. Is it connected to the IDE controller and just happens to reside outside the computer, or is it connected via another port (eg., USB, Firewire)? I know that you're not experiencing problems with that device, I just found it odd that the BIOS was recognizing it as installed on the secondary channel, as I immediately assumed (yes I know, don't say it! g) it would be a USB or Firewire device.
