Default Windows asks for 98CD but can't find the file it wants

I just refomatted my C drive and went through a clean installation of W98SE.
After installing my video drivers and some CD drivers, I moved on to the
network card driver. My network is fine but every time I start the computer I
get several messages about missing files (vnsetup.vxc, vredir.vxd, dfs.vxd,
vserver.vxd, and msnp32.dll.).
When running the network, device manager, driver, update device driver
wizard, the system asks me to insert my W98SE CD so it can find the missing
files, but the files are not found. Even the Microsoft site doesn't seem to
recognize the file names that Windows is asking for...
choosusr.dll
dhcpcsvc.dll
icmp.dll
inetmb1.dll
ipcfgdll.dll
iphlpapi.dll
msab32.dll
msnet32.dll
mspp32.dll
networks
pmspl.dll
protocol.dll
and the list goes on and on

What is going wrong?

Search the W98SE CD for files named "*.cab". Point to the folder that
contains them if W98SE asks where to find the files.

alternately you could try pointing it at c:\windows or c:\windows\system
when it asks for the files (since your network is working , they should be
in one or the other folder)
