Default dual boot ME & XP

I have a computer set up to dual boot ME or XP. The ME
hard drive (primary) had to be replaced, and I had to
reinstall the system.
Is there any way to set it up to dual boot without having
to re install XP also?

Assuming from your posting that XP is on the slave drive then boot from the
XP CD and do a repair install overtop of the exisitng, that will redo the
dual-boot and save all the XP stuff. (Of course, if you've upgraded to SP2
and the CD is SP1 or original then this won't work; things will revert from
SP2 back to whatever version is on the CD.)

Shouldn't be necessary to reinstall XP - the best place to ask this question
is in an XP newsgroup (to whic I've cross-posted this response, so hang
around!)

Hi,

Boot the WinXP CD, load the Recovery Console (see below). From the command
prompt run fixboot. What happened is that you overwrote the NT bootloader
with 9x code, but it's easy to fix.

Thanks, Rick - I had a feeling that was probably the solution, but wanted
confirmation before I put my neck on the block!

I tried the recovery console - it wants to write to "D:"
which is the XP drive - I boot from the "C:" drive. I
did it anyway, but the computer still boots directly into
ME. I tried "fixboot" (it only recognized the XP drive -
gave one choice - I selected it. Maybe that was when I
tried bootcfg) Did I miss something or do it wrong?
