Default Antivirus for win98

I needed to restore a backup on my windows 98 system, and the backup
was still using AVG free. Needless to say that isn't a good choice
anymore.

Can somebody please recommend a free antivirus scanner for Windows 98?
I can't seem to find an installer for Avast that will work.

If there is such an installer available, could somebody please provide
the correct link that will take me to the correct installer and not
just tell me "It's on the Avast home page"?

Also, I don't want to sound rude, but I'd really like to head off the
snide comments of "time to upgrade". This is my OLD computer, I'm not
spending any money on it, but I want to keep it running as it is still
usable for limited purposes. That includes keeping Spybot and
antivirus software up-to-date.

Came across 'clamwin' AV recently. Have not had a chance to install and ty
it. A google search should bring up a web address ... it's open source
software (freeware).

ClamWin does work

note: it does not have a "real time" scanner though

I've lost track of what date Avast stops supplying definition files for
version 4.8, which is compatible with Win98. PCR had that info at one
time.

Avast Home Edition 4.8.1229.80723 -
http://download.cnet.com/Avast-Home-...-10867956.html

Be sure to click the small "Download" button in the page body, NOT the
unrelated download in the ad at the top.

Someone here who comunicated with them said the definitions will no
longer be supplied after January 1, 2011 -- which date also shows up as
the "updates expiration" date shown in avast!'s About box in the
Registration Key section. (Normally, when the registration key expires,
one just clicks for a new one.) However the program suposedly continues
to function with the last updates taken. I'll personally start to get
worried around October or so!
