Default ME and 2000 Pro Conflicts

We just added a new computer with Windows 2000 Professional
to our local area network. It has had trouble networking
with out other two computers, one of which has Windows ME.
The new computer also is no longer able to boot up.
Someone suggested to me that Windows ME has probably
corrupted the files on the Windows 2000 computer through
the local area network.

Is that possible or likely? If so, what should I do?
