Adding USB Hardware
I am having trouble figuring out my USB ports.
I am trying to download songs from my sons computer (Win98) onto a MP3 player, but it will not recognize the connection. On the MP3 it says it is hooked up to computer, but the computer doesn't see it. It says in device manager that it needs a driver but will not get one. It is the USB port behind and below the PS2 connections [keyboard-mouse]. Under Unknown Devices in Device Manager there is a yellow exclamation mark beside PCI Multimedia Audio Device. Under USB Controllers there is a red X beside Unknown device. Any ideas will be gratefully accepted. And Happy Holidays to all the hard working elves on this site. Bruce |

Enter Biops and check if USB is enabled. For a period of time quite a few
systems came with USB disabled in bios. -- Jon Hildrum DTS MVP www.hildrum.com "Me2Ewe" wrote in message ... I am having trouble figuring out my USB ports. You'll probably have to go to the web site of the manufacturer of the device and see whether they have a Win98 driver for it. -- Tim Slattery MS MVP(DTS) |

Adding USB Hardware
You may wish to read MS KB articles 263218 and 288219. The latter may not
seem relevant but it gives a lot of information on USB. Also Win 98 was not that good with USB, the 98 SE edition ran better and has more fixes. If you have time take a look at the unofficial website www.usbman.com/win98seusbguide.htm, you should be able to check that you have the PC configured correctly with all the relevant patches. Better yet is to ignore the built in USB ports and get a USB 2.0 PCI card
(pretty cheap nowadays) Galen "Alan" wrote in message ... You may wish to read MS KB articles 263218 and 288219. The latter may not seem relevant but it gives a lot of information on USB.
