Default Windows Updates after a clean reinstall

I telephoned the Microsoft Order Desk on May 16 2006 and requested the
Windows Security Update CD for Windows Millenium. I was told it is no
longer available.

How odd since apparently another US resident rang and asked for a copy
just a week ago.

What is PSS? I'm in New York State.

Product Support Services

I've encountered a (hopefully) minor problem with reinstalling the
Windows Updates. I downloaded IE6 SP1 (over my dial-up connection -
it was 13 MB). I then ran Windows Update just to get a list of the
critical updates. Twenty-two updates were listed. Two of those are
not on the list of updates produced when Windows Update Catalog is
searched for Windows ME critical updates: 1: 873374 and 2: security
update Nov. 20 2001 MS01-56 308567.

873374, This is the rather limited tool to detect for vulnerable GDI
related files. This tool can be downloaded from the Microsoft Download
Centre using the link in the associated KB article KB873374 "Description
of the Microsoft GDI+ Detection Tool: September 14, 2004"

308567. This patch is only required for WMP7/7.1 and not needed if you
install WMP9. Once gain the patch can be downloaded from the Microsoft
Download Centre using the link in the associated KB article KB308567
"Windows Media Player .ASF Processor Contains Unchecked Buffer"

I haven't researched this yet. Hopefully, Windows Update Catalog , in
its advanced options, will let me request these two specific updates.

Noel,

In which case Allen should perhaps phone for a copy since he appears to be
somewhere on the east coast.

Apparently the Update CD is still available in the US at least - but
you have to phone PSS for it. I don't know whether it's available
elsewhere.

No way José as that would mean extending extended support for another
month g which could then mean it would be extended to the next quarter
(second Tuesday in October).
