Windows 98 Complete Backup Error
My attempts at doing a complete backup (Microsoft
Backup Version: 4.10.1397) with Windows 98 SE have always failed. When the first CD runs out of space, I get the message: "An error occurred while writing the backup data. The end of the media was approached unexpectedly. (08-22-07-01-0000)." According to a Windows 98 reference book, when the disk runs out of space, I should see a message that instructs me to remove the first disk and to insert a blank. This has never been the case. One disk of transferred information is as far as it goes. Help from anyone knowledgeable with this situation is welcomed. Thanks! |

Microsoft Backup does not support the use of CD-R/RW for backup. You need a
newer backup program. -- Richard G. Harper [MVP Win9x] * PLEASE post all messages and replies in the newsgroups * for the benefit of all. Windows 98 Complete Backup Error
However, it's possible to use CD-R/RW:
1st - check the compression settings, and set them to the highest compression; 2nd - create the backup file (.QIC) in another par- tition that is not selected in the backup task; 3rd - try again. After doing that, check the .QIC file size. It can be copied to CD? If the size is smallest than (or equal to...) the CD capacity, copy the QIC file to the CD. I do that. But, if you want, you can split the file onto two (or more), and use more CDs. (you need to join the files to restore files from backup) Richard G.
