How to remove AOL icon
Removing AOL Icon
The AOL icon appears next to my clock. In the past I was able to remove it by deleting Start Up commands in my Start Up menu. For some reason, I cannot remove it now. And, when the icon appears, my PC is slower when signing on. I am not sure, but I think my problem may be related to a Start Up command called AolAcsDaemon 1. In the past, when I deleted that command, the icon did not appear. When I contacted AOL they said I could not remove it on existing AOL software, but I could if I were to use an older AOL software. But, I have not changed my AOL software, and it could be removed in the past. So, is there a process I could use to remove the AOL icon next to the clock? Thanks, Jerry |

Thanks, Jerry With the latest version of AOL, my PC takes a little longer to boot up but the AOL software loads fast with that icon on there. The icon is not from Startup on the menu, and I don't see any options in the AOL software to make it go away. As far as I can tell, the only way to remove the icon is to remove the process that runs on startup, which is in your registry. To edit your registry, go to Start, Run, and type in regedit. Always select Export from your Regedit session before making any changes, especially if you're not sure of what you're changing. You can export the entire registry before you start, or export each branch individually before making any changes to a branch. Startup programs are found in the branches: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\RunServices and any other key under CurrentVersion that starts with Run. Delete the service key with the data value that references AOL and reboot, and the icon will disappear. |

I also know that AOL and Windows Me do not always work the best together and that too could be contributing to my problem. But, I was still wondering why that icon started appearing, when in the past it did not and I have not changed any AOL software. And, I was able to remove the icon from some command in the Start Up menu. It could be AOL downloaded an upgrade which changed my current software. Jerry |
