Default multiple modem drivers

have very slow handshake connections using a Lucent 56K Internet-Fax
modem. I have multiple drivers listed. Are the multiple driver a
problem? Thanks

Steve

Hi,

No, having multiple file drivers is not a problem. You could visit the
manufacturer's site and see if they offer a newer version of the driver
since yours is dated July 2003.

Dial-up connections are slow by nature, but if yours has noticeably
slowed down, check your sysytem for malware(viruses and adware/spyware).
Also check the physical connections such as the line going to the
computer and replace it if pratical. If your ISP offers different access
numbers, try different ones and see if there is a increase in speed.

If your phone connections are generally noisy with static, popping,
etc., then you should have your phone company check the lines, but
beware, they may charge for it. Rule of thumb is never tell them it's an
Internet problem, tell them you're having a problem with the phone lines.

Lastly, you could change out the modem, they're cheap and easy to
replace, but a new 56k modem is still 56k and you're not likely to
notice any difference, other than a lighter wallet. If broadband is
available and affordable in your area, that is the way to go. Cable is
much, much faster than DSL.
