Default Burn CDs in Safe Mode

I moved my Dell Dimension 4100 800Mhz 256Mb while
painting the room. After the paint dried (a couple of
days) I did a normal shutdown, unplugged everything,
moved the desk/pc/peripherals back against the wall,
reconnected everything. Now, I can only startup in Safe
Mode.

I've got some other things to try based on reading posts
here, but I'm thinking the harddrive is going bad, was
affected by moving it and I need to prepare for the
worst.

Can I load drivers and software such that I can copy
files to CDs before I either reformat the HD or it
crashes completely?

Thanks.
