OK, I downloaded the iuctl.CAB from a link in the WU.log from a ME
system. None of the files are changed from August, 2003.
So, any change in their behavior would have to do with updates for IE.
The mystery deepens.

I'll have to set up a new install to check logs, etc. I did try reinstalling
the iuctl. Didn't help.

And remember... Only on clean install of ME. Win98/98SE have no problems. I
don't know what would happen if I installed some intermediate version of IE,
nor do I know what would happen if I took all the other updates first, then
tried IE6... Or did I already do that one? Gonna have to check my notes...

Hmmm, hardly a *ringing endorsement* (snicker).

Btw....you and Joanie lost me about 3 posts ago. Do give us a clue what
in heck you are talking about. OTOH, do either of you know??? ROFL!!

Hey, my neighbour has an MG. Is that part of the puzzle? (blonde
question)

I did several clean installs of 98 "Gold", 98SE and ME. *Only* on ME does
this "stuck at 0% scan" problem occur, and *only* if I visit WU and install
the controls before installing IE6. That's it in a nutshell.

You're old? We're gonna have to get together and compare wrinkles,
double-chins, and pot bellies, snicker.

Good info, Bro. What you describe has convinced me that the ActiveX
update that is now included in IE6 is the issue. It hoses the ActiveX
software controls that are previously installed.
So, it would behoove one to get IE6 installed first, then the software
controls from WU. Risky business if one hasn't first installed the
System Restore update that fixes SR restore points made after September
8, 2001 right ?
