"PAT (Paul)" wrote in message ... Hi all:Heater,Joan, Alias, David H. Lipman, Heirloom, John John, Mike M, Noel, Richard, Ron, westster72n, not to forget sced13ri and others. Dont want to revive this saga: 136 posts on a question! As usual when coming back after a few days, I keep up to date with this group, by now the only one that I find convivial, fun, and amusing...and was quite surprise to find a philophical logic question asked in such a matter, unless the op dont realize it?? What he is asking: Does anything follow from a contradiction? Unless he has a very sound knowledge in logic, he is in the wrong forum; I would suggest he looks into: Does anything follow from a contradiction? in: http://forums.philosophyforums.com/thread/17213 the first two answers will suffice. I find he is not the type to ask such a question, he has some traits not compatible with the situation: "champion", keeper of the only truth, childish manners, etc. Lets all go back to "our" forum group. I find that to be a good idea under the circumstances, Paul. We are, because we are thinking, that guy thinks he is thinking, while he should go back to the drawingboard and start from scratch, because he missed sooo much along the way. Best to pay no attention to his argumentation. Harry, who likes to think he is, but what ?. I said I would not participate further in this downward spiral, but, I went
back a read the entire thread and came to some enlightening conclusions. First off, Mr. Harper seems to be one of the few (if not the only one) that shed a little light into this black hole of bickering. I found comments that I agree with, disagree with, have severe doubts about and some that are blatantly insane. Where is this going?......nowhere, fast. Everyone should go back to Richard's post of 12/17 at 5:28AM and read it carefully....then think about it (this may take longer for some).....then heed the message. The world is a parade and it is this "I am the only one in step, the rest of the world is wrong" attitude that is overwhelming lucidity. Ah, you see; once the cycle has begun it is difficult to get one's self free
of unless one is truly and really dedicated to the thought that it can be done. Many belief-structures rely on the cyclical nature of life. Even those that don't acknowledge the truism "what goes around comes around." The only way to break the cycle is to dedicate yourself to the thought that you are capable of much better. You can do it. You CAN do it. YOU CAN DO IT. Trust me. -- Richard G. Harper [MVP Shell/User] * PLEASE post all messages and replies in the newsgroups * for the benefit of all. You only need to realize which discipline your foe is using, then counter
with an appropriate discipline. For example, those who follow the school of Clausewitz ("War is a wrestling match on a larger scale") can easily be confounded by countering with Sun Tzu ("One hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the most skillful. Seizing the enemy without fighting is the most skillful"). -- Richard G. Harper [MVP Shell/User] * PLEASE post all messages and replies in the newsgroups * for the benefit of all. This particular brand of total a&&hole has surfaced periodically (pun intended) throughout the universe that is known as UseNet - and seems to think that it has a divine right to publish "The Truth" - whether or not that view of reality has any bearing on the subject at hand, or not. |

Hi Kids, Can I play too, can I, can I?
My daddy can beat up your daddy! Oh yeah? Sez who? Your mom wears brogans! Just go ahead and spit over this line! Bet ya won't knock this stick off my shoulder! Well I'm tired now. Hope the recent spate of madness is because of a full moon and that this Newsgroup can get back to normal soon. GET A LIFE. Job offers an old adage, "If you lay down with dogs you're gonna get fleas." "OldHillbilly" wrote in message oups.com... TRIBUTE TO THE UNITED STATES This, from a Canadian newspaper, is worth sharing. America: The Good Neighbor. Widespread but only partial news coverage was given recently to a remarkable editorial broadcast from Toronto by Gordon Sinclair, a Canadian television commentator. What follows is the full text of his trenchant remarks as printed in the Congressional Record: "This Canadian thinks it is time to speak up for the Americans as the most generous and possibly the least appreciated people on all the earth. Germany, Japan and, to a lesser extent, Britain and Italy were lifted out of the debris of war by the Americans who poured in billions of dollars and forgave other billions in debts. None of these countries is today paying even the interest on its remaining debts to the United States. When France was in danger of collapsing in 1956, it was the Americans who propped it up, and their reward was to be insulted and swindled on the streets of Paris. I was there. I saw it. When earthquakes hit distant cities, it is the United States that hurries in to help. This spring, 59 American communities were flattened by tornadoes. Nobody helped. The Marshall Plan and the Truman Policy pumped billions of dollars into discouraged countries. Now newspapers in those countries are writing about the decadent, warmongering Americans. I'd like to see just one of those countries that is gloating over the erosion of the United States dollar build its own airplane. Does any other country in the world have a plane to equal the Boeing Jumbo Jet, the Lockheed Tri-Star, or the Douglas DC10? If so, why don't they fly them? Why do all the International lines except Russia fly American Planes? Why does no other land on earth even consider putting a man or woman on the moon? You talk about Japanese technocracy, and you get radios. You talk about German technocracy, and you get automobiles. You talk about American technocracy, and you find men on the moon - not once, but several times - and safely home again. You talk about scandals, and the Americans put theirs right in the store window for everybody to look at .. Even their draft-dodgers are not pursued and hounded. They are here on our streets, and most of them, unless they are breaking Canadian laws, are getting American dollars from ma and pa at home to spend here. When the railways of France, Germany and India were breaking down through age, it was the Americans who rebuilt them. When the Pennsylvania Railroad and the New York Central went broke, nobody loaned them an old caboose. Both are still broke. I can name you 5000 times when the Americans raced to the help of other people in trouble. Can you name me even one time when someone else raced to the Americans in trouble? I don't think there was outside help even during the San Francisco earthquake. Our neighbors have faced it alone, and I'm one Canadian who is damned tired of hearing them get kicked around. They will come out of this thing with their flag high. And when they do, they are entitled to thumb their nose at the lands that are gloating over their present troubles. I hope Canada is not one of those." Stand proud, America! Wear it proudly!! |
