Win ME Defaults:
When Windows explorer opens it defaults to having "my documents" expanded
and "my computer" is not expanded. I would like these two changed so that "my computer" opens expandeed and not "my documents." If this is addressed to the wrong NG please advise where it may be resolved. -- _________________________________ Though leaves are many, the root is one; Through all the lying days of my youth I swayed my leaves and flowers in the sun; Now I may wither into the truth. - William Butler Yeats 1865-1939 |

Win ME Defaults:
See the file TIPS.TXT which should be in your windows folder for details
of "switches" that can be used with Explorer in shortcuts to customise Explorer. For example creating a shortcut to Explorer where the target line reads: Explorer /e, C: will open up Explorer in two pane mode with your C:\ drive expanded in the right hand pane. -- Mike Maltby Birl Brown wrote: When Windows explorer opens it defaults to having "my documents" expanded and "my computer" is not expanded. Mike, I did this which immediately opened Explorer with "C" expanded (the way I prefer). But when I close everything and open explorer, it still has My Documents expanded. I would like this to be a permanent change. Also, a similar question. I like the folders to be viewed in "details". No matter how many times I change the "view" it doesn't remember the next time I open it. Can I get this to change permanently? thanks bonnie |

Set up an Explorer view, columns and layout (that is details or thumbnails or whatever) to suit your needs and then use Tools | Folder Options | View and click the button Apply to All Folders found at the top of the tab in the section "Folder views". -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP |

Each time I want to go into explorer, I have to go through dos promt if I want to view it this way? Doesn't really make sense. I guess my beginner status is showing. |

Bonnie,
Oh, so the change can't be made permanent. Make a shortcut as I explained in my earlier post where the target line reads Explorer /e, C: That is right click on your desktop, then New, Shortcut. enter Explorer /e, C: in the box labelled "Type the location of the item", then click Next, enter a name for the shortcut such as Explorer, end then click Finish. You will now have a shortcut on your desktop called Explorer that when clicked opens Explorer in the way you want. You can then drag copies of this shortcut onto either your Start button so as to appear in the Menu there or onto your Quick Launch bar. I guess my beginner status is showing. Not at all. If you don't ask a question it's much more difficult to find the answer and don't forget we all have to start somewhere, -- Mike Maltby MS-MVP Bonnie wrote: Oh, so the change can't be made permanent.
