Default Problems Networking M-E to X-P

Hi The
I'm trying to "Home Network" 2 computers--a P2 300+mhz Windows M-E to a
P2 400+ Windows X-P--with Internet Connection originating on M-E. In doing
so I am utilizing the "Genelink" USB Cable--however, I am getting NO
results--I do NOT see the X-P files on M-E nor do I see M-E files on X-P. The
peculiar thing is I was able to do this last year (Network from 1.6 P4 X-P to
400 mhz Celeron M-E--but for some reason I just don't remember what steps to
take and the "Genelink" manual doesn't offer any "troubleshooting"
solutions.) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This cable does not establish a network connection between your two
computers, and won't work at all unless you also install the software that
came with it.

Hi Richard--Thanks for answering. I have "Run" the software (floppy disk)
associated with the "Genelink" USB Cable . As I mentioned before, I "Home
Networked" last year with no problems-- sharing printer, files & Internet
Connection (only then, the Dial-Up Internet Connection ORIGINATED on an P4
1.6 ghz XP going TO a Celeron 400mhz ME)--this time my Dial-up Internet
connection is originating on the P2 M-E going to the P2 X-P--don't see WHY
that would be an issue--I believe the "problem" lies on the X-P machine--when
I go to "Network Connections" and find my "Local Area Connection" (with
"Genelink" USB) I try to "repair"--but it tells me "The following steps of
the repair failed: Renewing the IP address". What does this mean and if this
is indeed the problem, how to resolve it?

Thanks Again,

Neil
