Default Help: Windows Installer 2.0 corrupts explorer.exe

When I install InstMsiA.exe (version 2.0.2600.2) the windows installer for
win98, it affects explorer.exe. When I right click a file to examine its
properties it copies the entire file into the temp directory displays the
properties sheet and then deletes the tempory file. You can only spot it
doing this if the file is a few hundred MB, so I can't be sure it's doing
this for small files, though if the file is really large (arround a GB) it
doesn't do it at all. I've been able to isolate the problem to msisip.dll.
Explorer.exe is version 4.72.3110.1. I run with most options turned off and
the following reg settings:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\System
]
"DisableTaskManager"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explor

"NoSetActiveDesktop"=dword:00000001
"NoFolderOptions"=dword:00000000
"NoActiveDesktop"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\*\shell\openas \command]
@="C:\\WINDOWS\\rundll32.exe shell32.dll,OpenAs_RunDLL %1"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\Advanc

"Hidden"=dword:00000001
"ShowCompColor"=dword:00000000
"HideFileExt"=dword:00000000
"DontPrettyPath"=dword:00000000
"ShowInfoTip"=dword:00000001

"ShowAttribCol"=dword:00000001
"MapNetDrvBtn"=dword:00000000
"ClassicViewState"=dword:00000000

Any ideas?

Help,
because of someone37’s post here, I just noticed I have the same
problem. I did make the mistake of installing Windows Installer
v2.0.2600.2. Now it takes forever to view the properties of files
over 20 MB’s.

I tried downgrading to Windows Installer 1.1 but it did nothing and no
files have been changed. Is there any way to uninstall Installer
v2.0.2600.2 so I can reinstall v1.1 or is there another solution?

I found the solution here.

Installer 2.0 doesn’t corrupt explorer.exe. The MSISIP.DLL
v2.0.2600.2 has a bug in it. You must download MSISIP.DLL v2.0.2600.0
such as from here
[url=http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;836013]
Do NOT double-click to install the install.exe file you download.
Instead, right-click to open install.exe with a ZIP utility such as
WINZIP.EXE and extract InstMsiW.exe from it. Right-click and open
InstMsiW.exe again with WINZIP. Now you can extract MSISIP.DLL
v2.0.2600.0. You should be able to simply drop it into the
C:\Windows\System folder, replacing the defective file. If your
system is not fixed, reboot. You may want to keep the defective file
instead of replacing it. I suggest you keep/ZIP both versions. If
you cannot replace the MSISIP.DLL file in Explorer, you will need to
replace it in MS-DOS mode.
