Default Scanreg is backing up bad registry entries

Im concerned about my scanreg restore tool'I
followed the instuctions for restoring the registry the
scanreg/restore dos command and I did restore a good
registry succesfully'However something that has me a
little worried is that all but two of the five backups
said not started and of the two that did say started one
of them didnt restore correctly'I make no claim to be very
experienced with the registry in fact I was in scanreg to
actually see my registry restored with my own eye's on
instruction from my windows help program but isnt the
scanreg restore tool only supposed to backup properly
functioning registry cabs? I have to wonder if my scanreg
tool itself is working properly. Thanks in advance for any
input.

"Not started" does not refer to an error, that means only that that registry
backup was not created at firstboot of the day, if you manually run scanregw
and create a backup, then those backups will be labelled 'not started', they
were created not at startup. If the registry didnt restore properly then it is
more likely that the computer is too different than was able to operate with
that old registry, the registry backup may have been from before recent
program installations or updates and referenced incorrect data. Try also a
reboot to DOS, and the dos command
SCANREG /OPT
SCANREG /FIX
and/or SCANREG /FIX /OPT
to redo parts of the registry that may be malfunctioning.
Watch out for well marketed 'registry cleaners' I have found out the hard way
that they dont work well themselves, and remove things that the computer wont
work without.
